About the Scholarship

As a market leader in education technology, Blackboard understands the critical need for professional development in the workplace. We value variety of perspectives, ideas and skills at Blackboard. This year, we’re providing scholarship opportunities for two attendees to attend our DevCon + BbWorld conference in July 2019. This will facilitate more diverse perspectives at our signature conference and will expose employees and clients to more diversity at the conference. We are proud to accept nominations for the Diversity Scholarship, which will fund registration and travel expenses for two selected nominees to travel to the DevCon + BbWorld conference in Austin, TX on July 22–25, 2019 (the “Event”).

Nominees must meet the following criteria:

· Must be a full time employee or student at a Blackboard client institution;

· Must be a member of an underrepresented group at technical conferences, including but not limited to: women, people of color, people with disabilities, LGBT+, veterans;

· If employed, your employer cannot cover the cost of your conference attendance;

· Must be at least 18 years old;

· Must be based in the United States; and

· Must be able to attend the Event

If you meet the criteria above, we encourage you to nominate yourself for this scholarship! Nominees may be nominated by a colleague, friend, or self-nominated. The deadline for nominations is midnight EST on May 31, 2018.

Selection process:

Blackboard will evaluate nominees based on a documented rubric that considers the responses to the questions included in in the Nomination Form and how impactful the scholarship could be for the nominee or their respective institution. Blackboard will award full scholarship to the two (2) nominees who have the highest scores based on the outlined criteria.

The full scholarship will include the following:

· Flight, hotel, and expenses for the scholarship recipients to attend the Event (up to $3,000.00)

· Registration for the scholarship recipient for the Event

· Attendance at client facing events, including the DevCon party on Monday night, the community event on Tuesday night and more

· Bb Swag

Full retail value is approximately $5,000.00. The scholarship recipient will be announced on June 15, 2019.

Scholarship Proposal

  • By submitting the Nomination Form to the Diversity Scholarship Program (the “Program”), you and the Nominee (if you are not self-nominating) (together, “Participants”) agree to be bound by the following Official Rules:

    1. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. PURCHASING ANY GOOD/SERVICE DOES NOT INCREASE YOUR ODDS OF WINNING.
    2. Decisions Non-Appealable. Blackboard has sole authority to select scholarship recipient. Such selections are final and may not be appealed.
    3. No Substitution, Transfer or Assignment. No substitution, transfer, or assignment of the scholarship shall be permitted except in Blackboard’s sole and absolute discretion. Limit one scholarship per person. If the selected Nominee is unable to accept the scholarship, Blackboard will not award a substitute scholarship and the Nominee with the next highest score will be selected.
    4. Blackboard Personnel. Directors, officers, and employees of Blackboard or its affiliates are not eligible to participate in the Program.
    5. Use of Likeness. Each Participant grants Blackboard and its agents the rights to photograph, film or record the Participant at the Event, and to make use of such photographs, films and recordings in all media now known or hereafter developed, worldwide and in perpetuity, in connection with the production, distribution, and promotion of the Program and/or the Event. Blackboard shall be the exclusive owner and copyright owner of the results and proceeds of such photographs, films and recordings, and of the Program and the Event, in all such media and for all such purposes.
    6. Privacy. Each Participant grants Blackboard the right to use and distribute information submitted by or about a Participant in connection with the Program and/or the Event. In addition, Blackboard may, without notice to or consent of a Participant, use and distribute the name and affiliated institution of such Participant in connection with the Program and/or Event. Participant hereby consents to Blackboard using the information submitted by a Participant to contact them to market Blackboard products, solutions, and service offerings.
    7. Governing Law & Venue. The Program is governed by the laws of New York regardless of conflicts of laws rules to the contrary, and any claims, disputes and causes of action related to the construction or implementation of the Program will be governed by such laws and will be subject to confidential binding arbitration in Washington, DC according to the rules of the American Arbitration Association.
    8. Misc. These Official Rules constitute the entire agreement between Participants and Blackboard pertaining to the subject matter hereof and supersede all prior or other arrangements, understandings, negotiations and discussions, whether oral or written. Any failure by Blackboard to enforce any Official Rule shall not constitute a waiver of that or any other Official Rule. If any provision of these Official Rules is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, such provision shall be severed from the remainder of these Official Rules, which will otherwise remain in full force and effect.
    9. Participation. By participating in the Program, Participants agree to : (1) be bound by these Official Rules; (2) release Blackboard and its subsidiaries, affiliates, divisions, advertising and promotion, fulfillment and/or judging agencies, related entities from any and all liability for any loss, harm, damages, costs or expenses, including without limitation property damages, personal injury and/or death arising out of participating in this Program, or the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any scholarship and claims based on publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy and merchandise delivery; (3) consent to the use of their names, voices, pictures, likenesses, and submissions/entries for advertising and promotional purposes in any medium throughout the world in perpetuity without additional compensation unless prohibited by law; and (4) consent to Blackboard using the information provided on the entry form to contact them to market Blackboard products, solutions, and service offerings. (5) Provide a quote and or short video clip about their experience at the Event.
